How to Measure Your Desk for a Laptop Stand or Monitor Riser

Size & fit guide

Three measurements make a more useful starting point than screen size.

1. Map the clear work surface

Measure the width and depth that are actually free, in inches. Exclude a lamp base, a cable opening, the edge of a desk shelf and any space you need for writing. Sketch a rectangle on paper and mark the fixed items.

Keep your writing area clear.

Check whether the product dimensions describe a base, a platform or the complete product. A stand may extend beyond its base. A desk converter may need room for a keyboard tray and moving mechanism. Do not assume the upper surface gives you the full footprint.

2. Measure your device, not just the display

For a laptop, measure the body width and depth, then look at where the feet and contact areas sit underneath. Make sure vents and connections can remain accessible. For a monitor, measure the base or stand footprint, including projecting feet. A large screen can have a small base and a smaller screen can have a wide one.

Compare your device measurements with the support surface when that measurement is available. If only an overall product size is listed, it does not prove your device is supported. Check the device weight against an explicitly listed load rating. Ask us when a measurement or capacity you need is not provided.

3. Decide what height needs to change

Measure from the desktop to the current screen position, then compare it with the lift or height range listed for the product. Overall height, adjustable height and underside clearance are different measurements.

If your goal is keyboard storage, measure keyboard width, depth and maximum height. Do not substitute a riser’s overall height for clearance.

Check the way you work

Put a paper outline of the product dimensions on your desk. Leave your keyboard and mouse in their normal positions. Check cable routing, drawers, the space to open a laptop and any nearby shelves. For rotating stands, leave room for the device to turn. For adjustable platforms, account for moving parts and use them on a stable surface.

Before you order

Read the specification table and the selected option carefully. Rounded inch conversions are there for comparison; original metric dimensions may appear alongside them. A product photo can show accessories that are not included. If a detail is essential to your layout and not listed, ask us before buying.
